Tipping point

Well. kids, here we go. Showtime. Game day. What may be the last battle for the soul of America.

Ordinarily, with my Liberal sense of fairness, inclusiveness, and plain ol' good manners on full display, I'd simply advocate that every voting-age citizen go to the polls, and embrace this marvelous right of participation all Americans enjoy. I'd encourage you to make your voice heard, regardless of political party. I'd urge Republican and Democrat alike not to waste this precious opportunity to join in our most fundamental liberty: free elections whose outcome is determined purely by a vote of the people.

Ordinarily I would. But this year, this day, is different - and fairness, inclusiveness, and plain ol' good manners can no longer be proffered to the supporters of a Party that's terrorized the very idea of America for the past 12 years.

This country has reached a tipping point, and today's vote will be seen by the world as a referendum on the true character of the nation - and on the ideals and principles we hold dear. And in that light, a vote for anyone or anything Republican is nothing less than an act of treason against the core values of the Red White and Blue.

A Republican vote is a vote for aggression and imperialism. For fear and hatred. For incompetence and cronyism. For dishonesty, secrecy, and corruption. For torture, indefinite detention, and the denial of legal rights. For totalitarianism.

It is a vote for financial ruin. For class warfare. For disaster unpreparedness. For corporate monopolies. For state-controlled propaganda masquerading as news. For military control of space. For homophobia. For persecution against women. For laws written by oil barons and lobbyists and meth-using evangelists.

Supporting the current incarnation of the GOP is a vote for the slow death of the planet by poison. For war profiteering. For unsecured borders and ports. For increased global terrorism. For an assault on science and medical progress. For religious fundamentalism. And for the continued, needless slaughter of foreign civilians and our sons and daughters in uniform.

So this year, I withdraw my exhortation to all of my fellow citizens, and instead urge only those interested in saving this nation from the Ruling Party to make an appearance at the polls. As for the rest of you - that 35% who somehow, inexplicably, still support the policies and direction "decided" by our Dear Leader - I can only suggest you find a dark corner, and hide in shame.

Now go. Vote. Do your part to save what's left of America. This is our third chance to do so in the last four years - let's hope this time, we finally get it right.
