Mea culpa
I suppose I could blame my absence on work, since, truth be told, I've been extremely busy over the past ten days. Yet, I've had a frantic schedule before, and have always managed to find the time to offer up my two cents in my own, modest attempt to influence public opinion and to try and turn America around from its current disastrous course.
So I guess I'll just have to chalk it up to mental fatigue, a body- and soul-numbing exhaustion that's been created by the sheer volume of demonstrable incompetence displayed daily by those who govern this nation. Oh sure, I've begun to write many times during the last week and a half about a number of topics. But in each case, I've been halted a few sentences in by a nagging voice in my head that suddenly whispers, "Why bother?"
Because the underlying cause of all the nation's ills remains the same one that has existed for nearly six horrific years: George Bush and the Republican Party are still in control. Beyond that simple fact, there's nothing to discuss. And until that wrong is righted, nothing positive can be accomplished, no matter how much I howl at the moon.
Nevertheless, I also realize that silence fueled by frustration is essentially a cowardly mindset - one of which the Democrats as a whole have been shamefully guilty for far too long. Such an attitude would also place me among the inexcusably apathetic 40 percent of Americans who don't even bother to vote come election time, a group whose silence has contributed mightily to the ascension of George the Younger and his jackbooted associates. And that's not a club in which I desire membership.
So, with apologies to my readers and supporters for my ten day pity party, I jump once more into the fray. I'll try not to forget that I am a member of one particular organization with which I'm proud to be associated. And that's the Liberal blogosphere, perhaps the only group of U.S. citizens whose constant vigilance has sought to protect the very foundation of American ideals, and who one day will quite probably save this nation from itself.
It's a privilege to be counted among these true patriots. Hissy fit over. Time to make a noise.
