Now, wait just a darn minute...

It would seem that a report in yesterday's National Post about a new Iranian law requiring non-Muslims to wear specially colored "insignia" just might not be true. Articles from IranMania and Israel's YNetNews indicate that the original story is a complete fabrication, potentially planted to escalate visceral anti-Iranian feelings worldwide.

It certainly worked on me.

Have Western nations become so desperate to demonize Tehran that they'd knowingly spread such an inflammatory bit of news without careful investigation? Apparently so. And I have to admit - sheepishly - that I helped with the uninvestigated spreading yesterday. Judy Miller and Ahmed Chalabi would be proud. Shame on me.

More later.

Don't feel bad. In the first Gulf war, this kind of thing worked so well that it became one of the rationalizations for that war. Catapulting the propaganda works.

well, the wiretapping stories turned out to be untrue, also. I understand BellSouth and some other companies are suing for libel.
