Overly sensitive?

Now, maybe it's just me and my overriding sense of paranoia. Or maybe I'm just missing the ultimately benign fact that it's an "oh so French" thing to do. But I find these reports in France's Expatica regarding Jacques Chirac's willingness to wage nuclear war not only in response to an external attack, but in the pursuit of protecting his nation's oil interests as well, to be pretty f#%king reckless and terrifying.

Or am I just being overly sensitive?

More here, here, and especially here. Not much mention of a U.S. reaction, eh?

I thought the same thing when I read those reports. It's probably just bluster, though. But Bush & Co. are quite capable of doing such a crazy thing, and Chirac's statement makes it just a little easier for them to do so.

Isn't it also interesting how we've been "instructed" to cringe in fear over similar bluster from the Iranian President, despite the fact the he is 5 to 10 years away from even having a nuke?!

Double-standard, anyone?
