American monarchy
Why, even in Kansas a Sunday op-ed condemns the President, angrily stating, "the struggle with foreign enemies does not simply give him a blank check to do whatever he wants."
What should be truly terrifying to all Americans is Mr. Bush's defiant statement that, no matter what anyone says, he plans to continue this practice unabated. That he and his Administration are above the law. That he's so drunk with "war powers" he simply doesn't give a damn what the truth is anymore. And shockingly, but not surprisingly, his dutiful minions continue to openly lie on his behalf, expecting, I suppose, that if they repeat the lie often enough, we'll eventually believe that it's true.
I've already made my position clear in regards to the Bush White House, and have little more to add. There can be no doubt any longer that this entire Administration fancies itself as an American monarchy, using a war its PNAC supporters have planned from day one of Bush's reign as a sweeping justification for the betrayal of our nation, our laws, and our Constitution. Many of us have said this from the start, and have been branded as traitors to "the cause." It's time for the rest of America to finally recognize the true traitors to our fundamental ideals, and to demand their removal from office as quickly as possible.

Soldiers
Thank God for our soldiers, those men and women in all branches of the armed forces who are sacreficing careers, life, and limb for our cherished way of life. It has always been their blood and hardship which has been the currency used to pay for our freedom.
The anti-war crowd of the 21st century considers itself smarter and more sophisicated than those who sprung up around the Viet-Nam War. Whitness the differing approachs each have taken towards the people in the military. During the 60's and 70's the anti-war movement treated our soldiers like dirt. Today, most people on the left proclaim that they support the troops but oppose the government's policies in the war on terrorism. "The war in Iraq is bad," they say, "but the soldiers are not."
In reality, the 21st century anti-war movement is just less honest than their counterparts of the 20th century. At least their grandparents were consistent and understood that you can't oppose the policies and support the boys. To support our soldiers one has to back that for which they are fighting and dieing. If the military is to succeed in its missions and our soldiers are to have a reasonable chance of accomplishing the goals and objectives which were established by our politicians, the policies from which they emenate are essential. Thus, to support the troops one must support the war effort.
In an interview/debate format hosted by Chris Wallace, Barbara Porchis, the Mother of Army Reserve Private First Class Johnathan Cheatham, who was killed in Iraq in July, 2003, represented the anti-war perspective. Citing a failure to turn up weapons of mass destruction and a direct link between Iraq and 9/11 she raised the question "What is the noble cause for which America's sons and daughters are fighting and dieing?"
On the broadest front, it would be victory for the forces of peace and freedom which are under attack by a thoecratic, fascist, trans-national empire. The noble cause for which our children fight and die is a chance for peace and stability to take root and begin to flourish in the middle east and other volitile and potentially dangerous areas in the world. If a free and democratic Afganistan and Iraq can serve as inspirations in that violent region of the world, this noble cause can at least give peace a chance by replacing the hopelessness and dispaire which breeds fanaticism and terror.
One would think that the women who will never be raped in Saddam's torture chambers think this is a noble cause. The men and women who will never be political prisioners summarily executed and buried in mass graves certainly feel our efforts constitute a noble cause. The Isrealies, who no longer have to mourn the loss of loved ones murdered by Hamass' suicide bombers; the very ones who had been emboldened by Saddam's generous $25,000 bounty paid to the surviving families of terrorist bombers, can now smell a noble cause. The Kurds, who no longer have to fear additional chemical attacks from Saddam's military, know that our efforts are noble, as do the neighboring countries in the region which had been either attacked or threatened by Saddam.
The fact of the matter is that the left's assult on the war constitutes nothing more that their rooting for the forces of terror to win the war at the expense of America's national securiety. While they don't use the words, many on the left cheer for the victory of fanatical terrorists over our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marienes. This is the support they offer for soldiers fighting in the war on terror.
Look at how these so called crusaders for peace are treating the troops. Mother, Cindy Sheehan in Crawford, Texas, called her peace site, Camp Casey, after he son who died in Iraq. The liberals occupying those grounds planted hundreds of white crosses emboldened with the names of fallen soldiers. In Washington others protest at Walter Reed Hospital where the casulities of war are mending. Imagine how those soldiers are rolling over in their graves because those who opposed them and the policies for which they were fighting use them in ways which they never would have approved. Certainly our fallen brothers and sisters would support the anti-war activists right to protest, but never would they allow them to dishonor thier names in such a way.

The previous post said: "Thus, to support the troops one must support the war effort."
This is roughly equivilant to saying a mother cannot support her son because he is in prison.
We (attempted) to elect a President of the United States; not a president of the planet.
We have spent over 300 BILLION dollars on IRAQ (and Afghanistan). For the same amount, we could have fenced off the United States, and built enough nuclear reactors to have oil selling for $15.00 a barrel.
Michael,
While I respect your passion, I have to vehemently disagree with your contention that:
(T)he left's assult on the war constitutes nothing more than their rooting for the forces of terror to win the war at the expense of America's national security. While they don't use the words, many on the left cheer for the victory of fanatical terrorists over our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines.
This is not only an ignorant recitation of neo-con lies, but also personally and egregiously offensive.
I was there in those anti-Vietnam protests, and know that you are correct about our inexcusable verbal attacks on the involuntary soldiers who returned from Southeast Asia. But the lesson I learned clearly from that period is that the true way to honor our men and women in uniform is to ensure that they not be put in harm's way for fabricated reasons, and only as a last resort when all other means of diplomacy have failed.
In other words, the most supportive thing we can do for American soldiers is to keep them alive.
You conveniently forget that our act of aggression against Iraq has taken the lives of tens of thousands of innocent civilians. And you seem to have missed the fact that invading and occupying that nation has aboslutely nothing to do with protecting America from terrorist threat, and has actually left our homeland more vulnerable and less secure.
I have deep respect and admiration for the courage of our men and women in uniform, and yet despise the insidious Administration that has sent them to die needlessly in groups of two and three, day after day, for the last three years. When you simply parrot the talking points of that Administration, it is you, sir, that dishonor them.
